Man dies after running onto Hwy. 99 in Stanislaus County, getting hit by car

CHP says the man ran from the east shoulder of Highway 99 near Hatch Road to the center median and was hit by a Volvo.

MODESTO, Calif. — A man was hit and killed by a car after trying to cross Highway 99 near Modesto Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says the man ran from the east shoulder of Highway 99 near Hatch Road to the center median and was hit by a Volvo sedan driving northbound on 99 around 3:30 p.m.

The man was pushing a bicycle across the road when he ran "directly in front of the Volvo," according to CHP.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Volvo driver was not injured in the crash.

Two lanes of 99 were closed while an investigation began. The investigation is ongoing and CHP officials say they're unsure if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. No other information is available at this time.
