Deputies searching San Joaquin river for missing woman in Newman area

The search is taking place near the waterways of the river along the 26800 block of River Road.

NEWMAN, Calif. — Deputies are searching the San Joaquin River for a missing woman in the Newman area.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said they have drones up for the search. It's taking place near the waterways of the river along the 26800 block of River Road. 

The missing woman was described as Hispanic and in her 30s.

The sheriff's office said the woman went into the river after her 11-year-old child who was struggling. Her 13-year-old child went into the water to help and both children made it out of the river. But the woman hasn't been found.

The sheriff's office said crews will resume the search Friday morning.
