Missing swimmer found dead at Woodward Reservoir

The swimmer started to struggle and went underwater, but he didn't come back up, deputies said.

OAKDALE, Calif — A missing swimmer was found dead at Woodward Reservoir after he went under the water and never came back up.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said the man was swimming with a friend across the channel near Mountain View Point when they both got tired. 

The swimmer started to struggle and went underwater, but he didn't come back up, according to the sheriff's office. He was described as a Hispanic man, about 22 years in age.

Sgt. Luke Schwartz, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said the swimmer was found dead around 8 p.m.
