Fire at Rancho Cordova warehouse under investigation

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the fire was in a warehouse portion of a commercial building along Old Placerville Road.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Crews are investigating a fire that broke out in Rancho Cordova Wednesday.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the fire was in a warehouse portion of a commercial building along Old Placerville Road. Capt. Parker Wilbourn said crews arrived just before 4 a.m.

"There was a tremendous amount of chemicals and combustibles on that warehouse, especially in those racks," Wilbourn said. "They all ignited, created a tremendous amount of fire."

No injuries have been reported, according to the fire district.

"Heavy fire load, so much so that it actually burned through some of our main structural members and potentially could've caused a collapse, but thankfully the crews did what they needed to get done, knocked the fire out fairly quickly, kept it from spreading," Wilbourn said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
