Residents frustrated with noise from new 'TopGolf' facility

A new sports complex in Roseville has quickly become popular, except with some nearby neighbors.

A new sports complex in Roseville has quickly become popular, except with some nearby neighbors.

Some residents in the subdivision near Summerhill Park say the TopGolf sports complex and bar is disrupting their sleep.

TopGolf sits along Highway 65 and opened at the beginning of September. It’s a multi-level driving range, bar, and game center.

Sandra Stewart lives a few hundred yards from the new facility.

“You can hear them over there rooting and ranting,” Stewart said. “And that’s great and everything, but just not in my backyard.”

TopGolf Senior Communications Specialist Morgan Wallace said the business has spent thousands of dollars to dampen noise from the facility.

“We have worked very close with the city to ensure the music does not exceed allowable noise levels,” Wallace said. “We will work closely with the city and local residents, shall any issues arise.”

The City of Roseville developed a policy meant to reduce noise levels from trickling to the nearby neighborhood, said city spokesman Brian Jacobson.

The TopGolf noise impact study outlines an hour by hour limit on noise reaching nearby homes. Also, live entertainment and music are not allowed on the terrace past 10 p.m.

“As we've worked with TopGolf to get their facility built, they've strived to be a good community partner. They've only been open for 2 weeks,” Jacobson said in an e-mail. “We're confident that any noise issues will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction.”

TopGolf will also be required to submit another noise study to the city within the next three months.

Stewart is canvassing her neighborhood and asking families about their concerns, she is developing a petition that she hopes will bring change.
