Sacramento business owner ordered to pay back $687K after insurance fraud

The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office says Jorge Maldonado was convicted of felony workers' compensation insurance fraud last year.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A Sacramento business owner was recently ordered to pay $687,560 back to insurance companies after he was convicted of defrauding them through workers' compensation insurance.

According to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, Jorge Maldonado owned Pro-Care Building Maintenance when the California Department of Insurance received a suspected fraud referral.

Investigations showed between 2015 and 2017, Maldonado significantly underreported the number of employees working for him to three insurance carriers.

The underreporting cost insurance companies $687,560 in workers' compensation insurance premiums.

Maldonado was first convicted of felony workers' compensation insurance fraud in 2023.
