Here are the Sacramento City Unified high schools seeing facility improvements this year

Each summer, Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) officials schedule school improvement projects to beautify campuses.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) officials say multiple high schools will be at the center of facility improvement projects throughout the district this summer.

High schools in the district set to receive facility improvements include:

  • C.K. McClatchy High School
  • Kennedy High School
  • Luther Burbank High School
  • West Campus High School

McClatchy High School's athletic fields are being re-done, and the baseball and softball complexes are being resurfaced along with the tennis courts.

Bathrooms are being added near the high school's soccer field, cafeteria improvements are being made and the HVAC system in the main building is being replaced, according to district officials.

Planned improvements to amenities in the high school's athletic department follow the recent opening of Hiram Johnson High School's new $5.3 million football field and stadium.

“We are excited for the competitive opportunities that these new athletic facilities will create for our student-athletes and CKM Lions fans,” said C.K. McClatchy High School principal Andrea Egan. “In addition, a new HVAC system will help us modernize and respond to these historic late summer heat waves that we have been experiencing.”

Luther Burbank, West Campus and Kennedy high schools just started construction updates for their baseball, softball and tennis facilities.

A 2019 campus assessment revealed facility needs at SCUSD could cost up to $5 billion over 10 years. Bond Measure H provided the school district with a $750 million capitol improvement bond to begin prioritizing improvement projects.
