Sacramento population hits 500,000 for first time ever

With the population of Sacramento now at 501,344, the city remains the sixth largest in the state.

The City of Sacramento's population has officially reached 500,000 for the first time in history, according to a new demographic report from the Department of Finance.

With the population of Sacramento now at 501,344, the city remains the sixth largest in the state. Last year, the total for the City was 494,266, which amounts to a 1.4 percent increase.

In addition, out of the 10 largest cities in the state, Sacramento had the largest percentage gain.

In total, the state of California added 309,000 residents in 2017 to bring the total to 39,810,000, according to the report.
