Dispatch audio reveals moments after Sac State Student was hit with a pellet gun

Police say investigators are still gathering evidence, and it will be up to the District Attorney on whether to file charges.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A dispatch recording captured by Broadcastify last Friday morning revealed the communication between a 911 Dispatcher and first responders after a student was hit a pellet gun during a college fraternity party.

Dispatch: “We have BB guns, and they did start CPR?”

First responder: “Be advised, the friend on the scene shot him with a BB gun accidentally and they started CPR on the scene, and they’re transporting him now.”

Public Information Officer Marcus Basquez says 21-year-old Will Molina did not immediately collapse after being hit by the pellet gun.

“He knew he was hit, but he thought he was fine," Basquez said. "I don’t have a time frame of the time he was hit to the time the call to 911 was made."

Some of the recordings are difficult to make out, but police say friends of the victim attempted CPR before paramedics arrived. Molina belonged to a fraternity whose members live at the house where he was shot during the college party.

The audio recording also revealed that, while transporting the victim to UC Davis, a medic informed hospital staff that the patient was unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.

Molina was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say investigators are still gathering evidence, and it will be up to the District Attorney on whether to file charges.

Molina was a senior at Sac State and was set to graduate next month.
