Preview of Division 1 Sac-Joaquin Section high school soccer championship game

Will the heavy favorite Jesuit prevail, or will McClatchy's winning streak reach 10? It'll all be decided Saturday.

CALIFORNIA, USA — And then, there were two...

Jesuit High School of Carmichael has been riding high all year, #1 in Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1.

The Marauders come to the title game with a record of 20-1-2 having cruised through the first three rounds of the section playoffs. They're expected to be in the final, and they've been here before.

On the flip side is Sacramento's McClatchy Lions, the 7th seed in the section tourney. They've been on a hot streak winning nine straight, including knocking off the section's #2 seed Davis High and #3 team Whitney of Rocklin on the road to get to the title game against Jesuit.

McClatchy also comes in with an impressive 21-4-5 record. This is the furthest playoff run McClatchy has had in seven years. They've never won the section title.

Jesuit is ranked 5th in California with McClatchy 49th. Nationally, Jesuit is 18th with McClatchy 161st.

McClatchy head coach Izzy Ramirez said his crew "is playing for all 2,400 students at the school, those who've played on the team before, and for the whole SCUSD district."

Jesuit is led by coach Paul Rose, one of the best in the country, in his 45th year of coaching the Jesuit squad.

Will the heavy favorite Jesuit prevail, or will McClatchy's winning streak reach 10? It'll all be decided Saturday at Cosumnes River College at 7 p.m.

By making the title game, both teams have qualified for the NorCal playoffs to start next Tuesday.
