Sacramento grandparents accused of abducting their grandchild to Peru

The U.S. DOJ says according to court documents back in November 2021 the two abducted their six-year-old grandchild from Sacramento and took them to Peru.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The U.S. Department of Justice says two people from Sacramento have been charged with interstate and international kidnapping and kidnapping conspiracy.

The two people indicted have been identified as:

  • Edwin Alonso Cuadros Bravo, 54
  • Yulisa Alexsandra Guevara Wintong, 49

The DOJ says the two abducted their six-year-old grandchild from Sacramento and took them to Peru, according to court documents from November 2021.

"Despite pleading from the mother, Cuadros Bravo and Guevara Wintong did not return the victim to the United States," the U.S. DOJ said in a press release.

Initially, the pair were charged by criminal complaint in February 2022. Later that same year, the victim was returned to Sacramento as a result of government intervention.

Last Wednesday Cuadros Bravo appeared for the first time in federal court in Sacramento. He was detained following his first appearance and is still in custody. Guevara Wintong still has not yet made a court appearance.

If convicted, both could face a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
