'You don't hear about that here': Shoppers surprised after Lincoln credit union burglary

The city says the suspect entered through the roof Sunday morning.

LINCOLN, Calif. — A suspect is still on the run after breaking into a Lincoln credit union over the weekend.

The city says the suspect entered through the roof of the Golden 1 Credit Union around 9 a.m. Sunday. Nearby businesses, including Safeway and CVS, were shut down as officers searched for the suspect but have since reopened.

Credit union members and people ABC10 spoke with Monday were in disbelief after hearing the news and seeing such a large police presence there the day before.

"I've been probably coming here a little over 18 years, lived here 30. You don't hear about that here," said Marita Williams.

"Random to hear of someone breaking from the rooftop of a bank," said Nicolas Magana from Lincoln. "I don't know what would drive someone to do that."

Lincoln police said Monday they're reviewing footage from the bank and surrounding businesses. Police say the suspect was wearing light blue jeans, a black sweatshirt, black beanie and a ski mask.

Some customers who frequent the shopping center were concerned to hear the suspect is still on the loose.

ABC10 asked police if the suspect stole anything from the bank, but they said they could not disclose due to the ongoing investigation. ABC10 also reached out to Golden 1 Credit Union. They confirmed the break-in in a statement saying:

"Golden 1 is committed to the safety of our members and employees. We were alerted to a break in at our Lincoln Branch around 9:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024. No employees or members were injured. To avoid interfering with an ongoing Police investigation, we will not discuss further details of the incident."

Anyone with information can call the Lincoln Police Department at 916-645-4040.
