Pickup truck crashes through the wall of iconic Stockton restaurant in hit-and-run collision

El Rancho Inn Steak & Lobster has seen a lot of history, but nothing quite like this.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A long-running family-owned restaurant in Stockton is devastated after a driver rammed his pickup truck through the wall in a hit-and-run collision.

El Rancho Inn Steak & Lobster has been around since 1939. It's seen a lot of history over the decades, but nothing quite like this.

"One action changed the course of a lot of people’s lives," said Cassandra Lacondeguy, whose father, Ray, has owned the place since the 1980s.

According to Stockton police, the collision happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15. No arrests have been made.

Surveillance video taken from the business shows the Dodge Ram losing control before slamming into the building. Minutes after the crash, the driver can be seen fleeing the scene.

"Walks out like it's nothing, and this is my father's entire life," said Lacondeguy.

Fortunately, no one was inside at the time, and no one was hurt. But keeping in good spirits has been hard for the Lacondeguy family.

"A lot of people have made a lot of memories here, and, if we can come back from this, what that looks like we don’t know," said Lacondeguy.

For now, her family is working with their insurance company and the city to get a timeline for reopening.
