Sacramento Kings' Jordi Fernandez set to be Brooklyn Nets coach

Jordi Fernandez will continue to coach the Kings for the rest of the season, including tonight's game against the Warriors.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings' assistant Jordi Fernandez could be the next coach of the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets are prepared to hire Fernandez amid a monthlong search for a new coach, ESPN first reported. Fernandez will continue to coach the Kings for the rest of the season, ESPN reported. 

Before working with the Kings, Fernandez worked with Denver under Michael Malone as well as with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also served as the Canadian national coach 2023 FIBA World Cup, where he led the team to a bronze medal.

The Nets fired coach Jacque Vaughn in February.

The Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors face off in Tuesday's Western Conference Play-In Tournament.

Sacramento claimed the 9th seed and will need to win two Play-In games to secure a playoff berth. They'll face the loser of the clash between the 7th and 8th seeds if they beat the Warriors.

However this year, they'll have to do it without two key players, Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk, who are both recovering from injuries.
