Child, man hurt in crash on Capital City Freeway in Sacramento County

The crash happened southbound on Capital City Freeway near Watt Avenue when the driver, a man in his 30s, crashed into a pole after going off the road.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man was hurt and a child was taken to a hospital in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on Capital City Freeway in Sacramento County Thursday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened southbound on Capital City Freeway near Watt Avenue around 2:30 p.m. when the driver, a man in his 30s, crashed into a pole after going off the road, according officials. 

The car caught fire after the crash but was quickly put out, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. 

The child, which California Highway Patrol says is a girl under 10 years old, and the driver were taken to a hospital. The driver's condition is unknown at this time. 

The cause of the crash is under investigation and it's currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, or if the child was properly secured in the car.
