89-year-old killed in Ceres after head-on vehicle collision

Ceres police say an 89-year-old Castro Valley resident was killed when he was the passenger of a Toyota Prius involved in a head-on crash.

CERES, Calif. — An 89-year-old passenger was killed after a head-on car crash in Ceres Wednesday that led to the injury of two other drivers, police said.

Modesto Fire officials responded to the scene at the intersection of Hatch & Boothe Road to find a Chrysler 300 and a Toyota Prius badly damaged and trapping the vehicle passengers.

Though the 36-year-old and 64-year-old driver escaped the wreck with major injuries, the 89-year-old Toyota Prius passenger was trapped in the vehicle before being extricated.

A Ceres police investigation showed the Chrysler 300 driver crossed over the double-yellow center divide and crashed into the Toyota Prius. Police are still investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
