Suspect in hit-and-run killed by big rig on I-80 near Loomis

It's not clear if the suspect was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he ran into the lanes of I-80.

LOOMIS, Calif. — A suspect in a hit-and-run collision was hit and killed by a big rig after they got out of their car and ran into the lanes of Interstate 80, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials said the collision happened along I-80, west of King Road just after 1 p.m. 

In an update, CHP said the suspect was in a car and stopped along the right shoulder of I-80 westbound during the investigation of a hit-and-run incident.

Officials said he got out of his car and ran into the lanes of I-80 before he was hit by a big rig. The big rig ultimately came to stop on the right shoulder, but the man had fatal injuries from the crash. It's not clear why he ran into the traffic lanes. 

Officials said it's not clear if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. However, the driver of the big rig was not impaired during the incident.
