SACRAMENTO, Calif. — An Excessive Heat Warning continues through Tuesday evening for the Valley. High temperatures will reach the upper 90s-110°F from north of Redding to Bakersfield.

This time of year, heat like this is dangerous. Our bodies haven't adjusted to the warm weather. Heat risk will be high for much of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys. Also, waterways are still very cold due to snowmelt. Even experienced swimmers may lose muscle control.

Campers and people spending time outdoors should prepare for the hot weather with plenty of water and shade available.

The week ahead will see a gradual drop in temps from the upper 90s to 100s Tuesday to mid-90s through Sunday. The following week temperatures are expected to return to the mid to upper 80s.

The strong ridge of high pressure will move east, allowing a pattern shift back to near and below-average high temperatures across the West Coast. Valley highs are normally in the mid-80s at this point of the year.
