Mountain communities like Twain Harte battling power outages

Close to 3,000 were without power at the height of the winter storm in the Twain Harte and Miwuk Village communities.

TWAIN HARTE, Calif. — In the quaint, picturesque Tuolumne County town of Twain Harte, Julie Watson had some shoveling to do. Her car was buried in snow just off the main street.

She's had no power for the past two days where she lives on the second floor above a cleaning business.

"[On Thursday] I went to the hotel. But today all the hotels are booked. So, I'm not sure how I'm going to keep warm tonight," Watson said.

Unless you had a generator, businesses on the town's main street, Joaquin Gully Road, were closed.

At The Walk-in Closet boutique women's clothing store, clothing and jewelry were absent of buyers. Owner Kyra Johnson is trying to remain positive.

"I got creative. I pulled some product from the store and I went home because I had power there. And, I did an online jewelry sale on social media. So, we're trying to be creative on social media like that," Johnson said.

Next door, the Little Cottage Cafe was closed, too -- no power, no service.

"And then we have to worry about all our perishables. So, right now we've got windows and things open in there so it stays cold," Owner Fred Serianni, said.

While snowplows clear the roads, an army of PG&E trucks rolled into town, continuing to battle the elements and get power restored. At the height of the storm, nearly 3,000 were without power, including nearby Miwuk Village where Clay Hill lives.

"And then there is an apartment up in Miwuk that's a two-story apartment. It flattened it to one-story," Hill said.

PG&E hopes to get everyone's power back on as soon as possible. But, if these storms continue to pile up, it may be awhile.
