Open or Closed? | Northern California schools staying closed due to winter storm aftermath

While there's a break in the weather, school districts are still dealing with lingering impacts of the storms.

CALIFORNIA, USA — School is out for yet another day for some schools in Northern California that were walloped by a potent storm.

The Sierra was blitzed by wind and snow and is still dealing with the aftermath of the storms. Thousands remain without power in counties like Nevada, Amador and El Dorado.

While there is a break in the weather, school isn't quite ready to get back into session. Here are the school districts staying closed for yet another day.

El Dorado County

The following school districts will be closed Thursday:

  • Black Oak Mine Unified School District - all schools
  • Camino Union School District - all schools
  • Gold Oak Union School District - all schools
  • Lake Tahoe Unified School District - all schools
  • Pollock Pines Union School District - all schools

The following schools have a modified schedule:

  • Indian Diggings School District - 10:00 a.m. start
  • Pioneer Union School District - 2-hour delay
  • Placerville Union School District - 1-hour delay

Nevada County

The following school districts will be closed Thursday:

  • Nevada Join Union High School District
  • Grass Valley School District
  • Nevada City School District
  • Penn Valley Union Elementary School District
  • Pleasant Ridge Union School District

The Nevada County superintendent of schools said all schools in western Nevada County will be closed Thursday, including Sierra College NCC.

Amador County

All Amador County Unified School District schools will be closed March 2 due to the district not being able to safely transport students and due to staffing shortages.

Placer County

The following school districts are closed Thursday:

  • Tahoe Truckee Unified School District
