SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Several communities in Northern California were in the dark Sunday as a powerful storm brought fierce winds and heavy rain to the valley, and snow to the Sierra.
California's largest public utility, Pacific Gas and Electric mobilized hundreds of crews ahead of the storm. In a video posted to X Sunday, PG&E said more than 300,000 of its customers across the state lost power Sunday due to gusty winds and heavy rains.
In the state's capital, the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District described their power outages as extensive. SMUD says that crews are assessing damage and trying to restore power.
PG&E recommended that customers charge cell phones and laptops, have drinking water and ice on standby, and use flashlights instead of candles in the event of a power outage.
