Community, family remember 'Compassion Guy' year after Davis serial stabbings

David "Compassion Guy" Breaux was one of two victims stabbed to death in Davis last year.

DAVIS, Calif. — One year after two people were killed by a serial stabber in Davis, the community banded together to remember the lives lost.

David Breaux, also known as the Compassion Guy, was one of the two victims killed in the stabbings. College student Karim Najim was the second stabbing victim and a woman survived being stabbed.

The Davis community continues to mourn their deaths and gathered at the corner of B and 3rd streets nicknamed “Compassion Corner” Saturday.

Breaux created a bench on the corner as part of a project in 2013 aiming to create a gathering and listening space.

His sister invited the public to the Compassion Bench to reflect on its meaning and connect with others while remembering her brother.

"David was someone who reminded us we are capable of compassion no matter who we are, no matter what walk of life we come from,” said Maria Breaux. “He just constantly reminded that passion can live and does live."

The event was held all day near Davis’ Central Park.
