Sources: Investigators execute search warrant at Stockton Unified board president's home

The district attorney announced an investigation into the school district in April after two grand jury reports and a state investigation.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Investigators searched the home of Stockton Unified School District president AngelAnn Flores Tuesday.

The District Attorney's Office initially released Flores' name before removing it from their site, however ABC10 has confirmed through a source her home was in fact searched.

In response to the search warrant, Stockton Unified School District provided the following statement:

"It has been brought to our attention that the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation. The Stockton Unified School District will cooperate fully while keeping our focus on student wellness and achievement."

District Attorney Ron Freitas announced the investigation into the district in April after two grand jury reports and a state investigation.

The state's so-called "Extraordinary Audit" released in February by the San Joaquin County Office of Education and the Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team found a laundry list of alleged illegal activities. They included fraud and misappropriation of funds and/or assets.

Last June, a San Joaquin County Grand Jury investigation revealed "poor business practices," "lack of transparency to the public and Board," as well as a predicted $30 million shortfall by the fiscal year 2024-2025.

Earlier in April three top officials for the district announced their resignations; Interim Superintendent of Human Resources Wendy DiSimone, Transportation Director Nate Knodt and Interim Chief Business Official Joann Juarez.

Juarez was overseeing recommendations from the state and grand jury investigations. She criticized Flores in her resignation letter, alleging that Flores “created a hostile working environment for me and my team and has created great damage to my professional reputation."

No further details on the investigation are available. This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
