SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A 33-year-old man from South Lake Tahoe accused of vandalizing his neighbors' property is in custody after a Sunday standoff.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department says it's been called to the 1200 block of Margaret Avenue several times over the last few weeks for violent and erratic behavior.

The department says Tanner Delacruz was habitually acting violently around his neighborhood; allegedly vandalizing his neighbors' property, trespassing and disturbing the peace.

Around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to his home. He ran inside and refused to leave.

The department's SWAT team and crisis negotiators arrived. They say Delacruz wouldn't surrender and a fire of unknown origin started inside the home during the standoff but was quickly put out.

SWAT entered the home and found Delacruz hiding in the crawl space. Police say pepper spray was deployed and Delacruz exited the crawl space, throwing a handful of dirt in a negotiator's face on the way out.

He was booked in the El Dorado County jail for resisting arrest, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a peace officer, felony vandalism, public nuisance and disturbing the peace.
