MODESTO, Calif. — A woman on a bicycle was hit and killed by an Amtrak Train on Sunday near Modesto.
California Highway Patrol said around 9:55 p.m. a woman in her 40s was riding a BMX bicycle westbound on Highway 132. She was approaching a train crossing grade west of E Street.
An Amtrak Train was traveling north just south of Highway 132. The woman rode across the crossing gate arms and onto the railway. The train hit the woman and she died at the scene.
It's unclear if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to the crash, according to CHP. The crash is under investigation.
