Sacramento homicide suspect killed by Oakland police

The Sacramento Police Department was in Oakland following up on a homicide investigation when the shooting happened.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Oakland police officers shot and killed a person suspected in a Sacramento homicide Wednesday.

The Sacramento Police Department was in Oakland following up on the death of 34-year-old Rama Alsarraj. Around 9:30 p.m. Sacramento police notified the Oakland Police Department of the investigation and requested help arresting Dominique Broadt.

When Oakland officers arrived in the 1000 block of 16th Street, Broadt exited a home with a firearm. Oakland police officers shot at Broadt and the 32-year-old died at the scene.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave, which is the Oakland Police Department's policy. The shooting is under investigation.

Broadt was suspected in Alsarraj's death which happened March 3, 2024. Police said Broadt and Alsarraj were dating.

Case History

A woman was found dead after police responded to a welfare check in Sacramento on March 3.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers were responding to the 6100 block of Ventura Street for a welfare check when they heard sounds of shots fired. 

Officers backed away and set up a perimeter to search for a suspect, but no suspect was found. Police said Alsarraj was found shot at least once. She died at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Sacramento County Coroner's Office confirmed the victim's identity as Rama Alsarraj, 34.
