Sacramento Museum Week opens with Free Museum Day this Saturday

Twenty five Sacramento museums will offer free admission showcasing everything from sophisticated art and sculpture to family-friendly history exhibits.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Museum Week is kicking off another year with Free Museum Day, encouraging the community to engage with local history, education, and arts and culture.

Twenty five museums in the region are offering complimentary admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1. Last call for admission is at 4 p.m. for many locations.

Coordinated by Sacramento Area Museums, the event allows you and the family to see trains, automobiles, antique fire engines and more for free. Gaze at medieval-era paintings in golden frames, or contemplate the subtleties of contemporary art.

This event also ushers in an entire week of special events and activities at your local museums from Monday, Feb. 2 to Sunday, Feb. 9. While Sacramento Museum Day is free, regular admission will apply during the rest of the week, so don't miss out on Saturday's event!

With so many museums participating, it is important to plan your trip in advance so you get the most out of the day.

To help you travel around the city, SacRT is providing free rides in the Sacramento area for Free Museum Day. Present this flyer to claim your free bus and light rail to and from museums in the city.

For individuals that live outside the Sacramento region looking to participate in Free Museum Day, Amtrak San Joaquin is offering the Share Fare discount. Save up to 45% off tickets by using promo code V291.

Here is a list of all local museums participating in the 2020 Free Museum Day:
