Sierra-at-Tahoe to 2021/22 season pass holders: 'We're not giving up'

The ski resort south of Lake Tahoe is remaining indefinitely closed as damage from the Caldor Fire continues being assessed

TWIN BRIDGES, Calif. — As the Caldor Fire ravaged Lake Tahoe and the surrounding areas, the Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort works to rebuild what was destroyed.

The resort released an update on Wednesday, Oct. 13, stating trees along the trails and ski lifts were damaged and repairs continue on chairlifts. At the same time, the global supply chain shortages continue to hinder reopening efforts.

"Detailed inspections of the entire resort have revealed that we will not be able to offer you the same ski experience you have come to expect from Sierra," John Rice, general manager for Sierra-at-Tahoe resort, said in a press release. "We’re not giving up, nor are we backing down from the challenge."

Rice announced a full evaluation of the resort in September once conditions were safe enough.

About 350 square miles were decimated in Northern California since the wildfire broke out on Aug. 14. The Caldor Fire destroyed over 1,000 structures and injured five people.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding. Safety is our number one priority, and we look forward to welcoming you and all of our employees back to Sierra this season," Rice said.
