5.1 magnitude earthquake hits near San Jose

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck shortly after 11:42 a.m. Tuesday morning.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A preliminary magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck near San Jose, California, Tuesday. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck shortly after 11:42 a.m.

It was centered about 12 miles east of San Jose. People reported feeling it and there are no immediate reports of damage.
