Man arrested in Fresno County after allegedly shooting at CHP officer

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Manuel Martinez was stopped and arrested in Coalinga days after getting away from law enforcement.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man accused of shooting at a California Highway Patrol officer, barricading himself in a South Sacramento home and then running from law enforcement Wednesday was arrested in Fresno County, according to officials.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Manuel Martinez was stopped and arrested in Coalinga days after getting away from law enforcement.

Martinez will be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the sheriff's office.

Martinez is accused of allegedly shooting at a CHP officer in the area of Southland Way and Tiogawoods Drive around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

CHP says the officer was shot at, though they're unsure how many times. The officer did not shoot back and no one was injured.

Homes in the area were evacuated for more than six hours that evening before law enforcement said he was no longer in the area and may have carjacked someone the next morning.

No other information about what led to the CHP officer responding to the area has been released.
