STOCKTON, Calif. — A California Highway Patrol sergeant is recovering after a driver slammed into the back of his patrol car, authorities said.
According to a Facebook post from CHP Stockton, the sergeant was towing another vehicle that had been involved in a separate collision earlier in the day when an "errant" vehicle lost control and crashed into the back of the patrol car. The crash happened near Freemont Street along I-5 just after 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 4.
Dashcam footage shared with ABC10 from Robbi Terrazas shows the driver swerve around an SUV before losing control. The crash caused two lanes of I-5 to be temporarily blocked. The sergeant suffered minor injuries from the crash. The driver stayed on the scene.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
