Sacramento Kings beam wins innovation award, named NBA Team of the Year

The Sacramento Kings also received the NBA Team of the Year Award for business growth and engaging the fans and community, according to the NBA.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings won an NBA Team Innovation Award for the purple beam which has become a lauded tradition at Golden 1 Center.

The NBA said the beam has had a "notable impact on the local community and team business." Labeled a place of worship on Google Maps, the beam has certainly taken Sacramento and the NBA by storm with people gathering outside Golden 1 after a victory to see the purple beam light up the sky.

The Sacramento Kings were also named the NBA Team of the Year for business growth and engaging the fans and community, according to the NBA.

“We are tremendously proud to be recognized with these distinguished honors as we have further ignited our fanbase, continued to build international excitement and revolutionized our business,” said Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé in a statement.

The Kings were the second NBA team in ticket revenue growth and had the highest season ticket renewal in franchise history. The team also ranked first for fan experience.
